The Eames Type Wire DKR Side/Dining Chair

The wire or metal mesh chair is another example of the Eameses adapting industrial technology for furniture manufacturing. The Eames Office's knowledge of resistance welding of metal rods enabled this chair to be manufactured.

The mesh was more densely woven at the centre to make it more rigid but, in the interests of aesthetics, the lines at the sides were more horizontally open.

The perimeter of the chair was made from a doubled length of thicker gauge wire to promote greater stability. The distance between the structural units meant that this chair was not only better looking but lighter than other mesh chairs being made at the time.

This Eames Type Wire DKR Side/Dining Chair has a base made from chromed steel rods in the manner of the Eiffel Tower. The padded seat is only available in faux black leather.
