The Globe Chair inspired by Eero Aarnio

The Ball or Globe Chair was designed by using one of the simplest geometric forms - the sphere. Eero Aarnio produced a remarkable result - a completely unconventional shaped chair.

The walls of the Globe Chair repel ambient noise and it becomes a "room within a room".

Aarnio's womb-like capsule languished at home until 1966, when a visiting representative from the Asko furniture factory insisted on taking it to the Cologne Furniture Fair. As the Globe chair, it took off. Art directors saw it as the tangible expression of ‘tomorrow’ and photographed it for magazine covers; Mary Quant even put one in her London shop.

The New York Times described the Globe chair as "one of the most comfortable forms to hold up the human body". Conran's Design Directory describes the chair: "it now looks like an essay in period style, a prop from Barbarella".

Indeed, the Globe Chair has appeared in many movies and TV series, such as: Tommy (movie version of the Who's rock opera), Dazed and Confused (70s retro movie by Linklater), Moon Zero Two (sci-fi movie), The Prisoner (sci-fi TV show), a Clockwork Orange, Men in Black, Space Odyssey, Austin Powers and many of the James Bond films.

Manufactured from tough fibreglass, this version of the Globe Chair is versatile and easily washable. The swiveling pedestal base is made of heavy steel and, where possible, we use the original raw materials.

The body of the chair is hand made from fibreglass, then given 5 coats of acrylic paint and finally lacquered to a gloss finish.
