The Tribeca Coffee Table
Designed by Isamu Noguchi
In 1944 Noguchi modified an earlier idea to illustrate an article by the designer George Nelson entitled "How to Make a Table." The revised design, with its base of two identical elements set at a right angle, derived from a loop of wood cut in two, was put into production in 1947 by the Herman Miller Furniture Company, where Nelson had become director of design.
Produced by Herman Miller using a variety of woods from 1947-73, and again since 1984, the biomorphic Noguchi coffee table became one of his most well-known works, and late in his life the artist felt that it was the only instance in which he had been wholly successful in the field of industrial design.
Our table has a 10mm thick tempered glass top and high quality fibreglass. Fibreglass is a very robust and malleable material which allows the designer to incorporate curves and twists. Our lacquered paint finish is of a very high standard and there is no ‘thinning’ on the curves or corners.
A retro furniture dealer from Essex recently exclaimed, “your furniture is much better quality than I thought it was going to be, in fact better than some of the originals!”
